RETREAT PROGRAM – FUNDRAISING

Every student at ESM Rome has the opportunity to grow in his or her relationship with Jesus. Daily Mass, Praise and Adoration form the basis of the spiritual life in the ESM. However, there are many other ways the students are given to deepen their relationship with the Lord. During the year, the students go away on retreat to a variety of places. While most retreats take place in Rome, the first retreat of the year is in Assisi and another two retreats in Paray-le-Monial, France, which is at the heart of the Emmanuel Community.

The cost of a retreat for twenty students can be very expensive, with food, accommodation and transport being the major costs. There are twenty days of retreat that occur in or around Rome each year. The average daily cost of a retreat in a retreat house in or near Rome is about €12.75 per person, including food and accommodation. Retreats in Assisi, cost on average €56.43 per person per day, including food, accommodation and travel expenses. The two Assisi retreats last a total of seven days. The retreats in Paray-le-Monial, which extend over a period of fourteen days, are obviously the most expensive, with transport a major factor. The average daily cost of these retreats in Paray-le-Monial is €62.50.

While the students make every effort to raise money to cover the costs of their year at the school, there are always some who are unable to pay the whole amount. In particular, there are some students attending the school each year who come from impoverished parts of the world. In these instances, the ESM must raise funds to cover the expenses of these students.

We would like to offer you an opportunity to support those students who are unable to meet the costs of being at the ESM in Rome, particularly by helping to fund the cost of the retreat program. As we have indicated, the retreat costs are as follows:
